Various public and private organizations are organizing efforts to assist the 21 families that lost their homes in a devastating fire on June 27 that destroyed an entire block in the central part of downtown San Pedro. At the present time the affected families are sheltering at the San Pedro Roman Catholic School. Clothing, food, personal hygiene and household items, and cash donations are being collected by the San Pedro Lions Club to help the affected families to get through the crisis and rebuild their lives.
Historically sister city organizations across the US have provided aid to victims of natural disasters to cities they are twinned with as part of their mission. In keeping with that legacy Wilmington is launching an effort to provide aid to those who lost everything in the fire that swept the center of San Pedro town this week. Wilmington and San Pedro have been sister cities since 2007.
If you can help with a cash donation Sister Cities Association of Wilmington will accept funds online using a credit card or you can mail a check payable to SCAW and sent to POB 1865, Wilmington, NC 28402 (write San Pedro Fire Fund in the memo line of your check). Donations are tax deductible. Monies raised will be turned over to the San Pedro Lions Club to provide direct aid to individuals and families affected by the fire.
